What does the logo above mean?

From CreativeCommons.org:

“This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. Others can download and redistribute your work just like the by-nc-nd license, but they can also translate, make remixes, and produce new stories based on your work. All new work based on yours will carry the same license, so any derivatives will also be non-commercial in nature.”

Basically, you can reprint the content from anywhere in this blog or produce new work based on it without asking my explicit permission, provided you:

By:

Make explicit that you are quoting from or drawing upon the content within http://kmichael.wordpress.com. I would prefer something along the lines of, “From Inane in the Membrane by Kenneth Michael. Original work available online http://kmichael.wordpress.com.” This is not the exact wording you MUST use, but I do expect my name and a link back to this blog at absolute minimum.

Non-commercial..

Will only publish the derived works (or reprint mine) for non-commercial uses. You can’t make money from my work or things derived from my work.

Share alike…

Apply this same license (by-nc-sa) to the work you are publishing or re-publishing. This keeps my work and subsequent works it inspires in a protected but accessible form that encourages credit where credit is due and the free exchange of ideas I personally support. Also, I think it’s important for you to protect your own original work and receive the credit you are due for contributing to ongoing, free discourse.

But What About Fair Use?

Of course you as audience have your own rights for access, redistribution and works-inspired-by. Fair use is fair use, and I fully support your use of my work under fair use laws.

I’m a professional blogger, but really want to use your post about…

Have a question about reprinting my work? Want to use my work in some way outside this CCL? I own the rights to my work, and as such I am allowed to issue waivers to grant special privelages for specific usage. Shoot me an email: kmichael.blog (at) gmail.com
